Memorial Day Parades and events in Rochester NY and the Finger Lakes 2023.
Memorial Day, the unofficial beginning of the summer, is celebrated the last Monday of each May to honor the men and women who died while serving in the military (as opposed to Veterans Day, which celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans.) On Memorial Day, the flag of the United States is initially raised to the top of the staff and then solemnly lowered to half-staff to position in tribute to the more than one million men and women who gave their lives in service of this country. The flag remains at half-staff until noon, when it is then raised to full-staff for the remainder of the day.
